Fine Gael T.D. for Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal, Tony McLoughlin has welcomed the additional allocation of €116,400 for three key recreational projects in Sligo and Ballyshannon this morning.
“This funding was announced by Michael Ring, TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, as part of €2.2 million announcement for 32 projects under Measure 2 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
This Scheme is part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development and provides funding for the development of new outdoor recreational infrastructure such as trails, cycle ways and blue ways, as well as the maintenance, enhancement and promotion of existing infrastructure. “In Sligo, an additional €64,000 has been allocated to Sligo County Council to extend the existing Sligo to Carraroe ‘Greenway’ along with €38,400 for the development of a new ‘Blueway’ facility at Lough Gill.
In Ballyshannon, €14,000 has been allocated to the Ballyshannon Hub Loops project for new signage and information boards.
“This funding announced today follows on from a similar allocation of over €300,000 made to the constituency in 2017 under measures 1 and 3 of the Scheme.
“I have been in contact with officials in Sligo County Council about these projects in the build up to this announcement and I have been assured by the Council that their shovels are ready to go with for these two projects and I look forward to them being delivered” concluded Deputy McLoughlin.
