A large blaze broke out earlier this afternoon in an industrial unit in the dockland area of Sligo town.
The fire broke out in a tyre unit in a local business park in Finisklin- with up to three fire tenders from Sligo Fire Service responding to the incident.
Heavy smoke from burning tyres at the Quick Fit Tyre Services unit is causing visibility problems for motorists in the area.
The heavy invasive smoke is also causing problems for homes in the area.
Finiskiln Road in Sligo town was closed as emergency services fought the blaze.
It is understood that the incident was reported at 1.40pm
There are no reports of injuries and the Fire Brigade and Gardaí are currently at the scene where the fire is under control.
People are advised to stay away from the area.
Sligo County Council says "While the fire is under control, Fire Service personnel are requesting the public to stay clear of scene, home and property owners in Duncan’s Island and surrounding area advised to keep their windows closed."
