Weekend searchers for missing man praised

VOLUNTEERS HAVE been thanked for their “great support and vigilant searching” at the weekend for Michael McGowan.

The 43-year-old Coney Island man has now not been since Friday December 29th last.

Co-ordinated searches involving Gardai and Civil Defence will resume at a later date, said Liz Leyden, secretary of Rosses Point Development Association.

She added: “I spoke with Sergeant Philip Maree this afternoon (Sunday); he visited the McGowan family this morning.

“He has advised as follows: For the time being there will be no coordinated searches of the mainland.

“However if people wish to continue on their own initiative he advised that people search in pairs, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, ‘high visibility ‘jackets and always carry a stick.

“He will let me know when the Garda and Civil Defence coordinated search will resume,” added Ms Leydon.
