Alex McGourty from Calry, Co Sligo and David Higgins from Tralee, Co Kerry lost their lives while kayaking in Ecuador earlier this month. See link below.
Friends of the two have launched a fundraising campaign to help alleviate the cost of repatriating their bodies after they died tragically in a kayaking accident in Ecuador earlier this month.
The two Irishmen passed away after a group of kayakers got into difficulty during a flash flood on the river Abanico in the southeast of the country on 20 January.
Two men, including a local guide, managed to survive, while the fifth member of the group, 22-year-old English graduate Adam Vaughan, remains missing.
In the wake of the tragedy, friends of David and Alex have set up a GoFundMe
page to raise funds to go towards supporting their journey home.
Alex and David were are described as “vibrant, kind souls who lived life to its full potential, and words cannot describe what they meant to their family and friends, now it's time to bring them home one last time.”.By 5.30am this morning, Monday at the start of the fifth day of fundraising, over €31,000 of the goal of €35,000 had been raised, with over 790 people contributing to the cause.

The funeral of Alex McGourty takes place today and tomorrow in Sligo.
He is reposing at his home from 1 pm to 6 pm today, Monday. Removal from his home on Tuesday to arrive at Saint Patrick's Church, Calry for Mass of Christian burial at 12 noon, burial to follow in Clogher Cemetery. UPDATE:
The body of missing Kayaker Adam Vaughan has been found.
