snap returned to Sligo with a vengeance overnight and ahead of schedule.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning of high wind speeds all through today, Wednesday.
Nine counties along the Atlantic seaboard, including Sligo, have been named in the national wind alert.
The Met Eireann warning kicked in at 6am and will expire at midnight but some of the gusts were felt in Sligo much earlier.
Said Met: “Westerly winds veering Northwest will reach at times 55-60 km/hr near coastal fringes.”
Snow and ice has also been forecast for today in a number of counties, including Leitrim and Donegal.....but not Sligo.
That separate Status Yellow alert expires at 3pm Wednesday afternoon.
The cold snap is expected to continue tomorrow and Into the weekend, Met has predicted.
Thursday night will see temperatures in some areas dip to minus 2, with a “hard frost” and some icy surfaces.
Saturday will see “widespread showers,” some of hail and sleet, as the cold snap continues to hold.
