Sligo County Council has received a significant allocation of funds from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for progressing road improvement projects in the coming year.
The Council’s total National Roads Allocation for the year is in excess of €17.5 million. Included in this is an allocation of c.€4.5m which is specifically for repair of existing pavements on the N15 (Bundoran Road), N16 (Manorhamilton Road) and N17 (Galway Road) National Primary network. Improvement works are also planned for the N59 National Secondary between Ballisodare and Ballina. The first of these pavement overlay contracts commences in earnest on Monday morning next, 12 February. Click on above image to enlarge map
The scheme will involve the complete renewal of the pavement along the N16 Ash Lane & Duck Street (Ballinode Stores to Feehilys Funeral Home). These works are anticipated to last for approximately 6 weeks. It is expected that eastbound traffic will remain on the N16 for the duration of the works however for a period of approx.
Four weeks diversions will be in place for all westbound traffic i.e. westbound traffic on the N16 will be diverted along Clarion Road and Ballytivnan Road before re-entering the N16 at the Duck Street roundabout. See attached plan for details of this diversion. This diversion will commence at 9:30am on Monday morning next 12th February and will be clearly signposted.
This diversion will inevitably give rise to traffic delays and congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak times. We would urge all motorists to exercise caution when travelling along the diversion route as the road width is narrow in places. There are also a number of primary schools, second and third level colleges and residential areas along the route.
Throughout the duration of the N16 contract the traffic management plan may vary. Sligo County Council will endeavour to keep the public informed of all/any such changes.
1. N16 Phase 2 (AbbVie roundabout to Ballinode Stores) commencing April 2018
2. N15 Resurfacing Contract (Topaz Service Station to Scotsmans Walk) commencing June 2018
3. N59 Resurfacing Contract (Ballisodare to Ballydrehid) commencing c.June 2018.
Together with the surfacing contractor, the Council will make every effort to minimise the effects of the works where possible and regret any inconvenience which may be caused.
