Roads Update - Sligo County Council

Met Eireann’s  report for Connacht  states that it will remaining bitterly cold today with lying snow and ice in places and with some further falls of snow, mainly in southern and western parts of the province, where it will be heavy at times, especially over higher ground. It will be drier though further to the north.

Highest temperatures of just -1 to +2 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty east to north-easterly winds.

Sligo County Council roads crews have treated the main routes on two occasions since 6am today, with the main focus in the South of the county.
In Sligo town area, roads staff have been deployed clearing footpaths and a number of public car-parks, Upper Connaughton Road remains closed this morning

All main roads in the county appear to be passable  but motorists asked to continue to take care on all routes, especially on untreated local roads

Sligo County Council is requesting people in to stay in touch with elderly neighbours and others in their area who may not have access to regular information on changing weather conditions.


Most of the northwest was downgraded from a red alert to an orange alert area late last night, but it has still been badly hit by Storm Emma.

Motorists are also warned to take extreme care on secondary roads around Carrick-on-Shannon, and avoid them if possible.

In Roscommon, gardaí have reported very snowy conditions around Roscommon town and Boyle.

All flights to and from Ireland West Airport have been cancelled today and the airport is closed. It is expected to reopen at 7am tomorrow, weather permitting.

Passengers are advised to contact their airline before travelling to the airport.
