Four playgrounds in Co Sligo that were closed for repairs will reopen in the middle of March a local Fianna Fáil Councillor has said. "Ballymote, Ballinacarrow, Riverstown and Dromore West playgrounds all received funding last year to carry out small repairs and the work was completed many weeks ago.
The issue was in getting staff rostered from the Council to visit the playgrounds weekly as required for health and safety" Cllr Keith Henry from Ballymote said.
Cllr Henry tabled a motion asking the Council to complete its roster to the playgrounds could re open. "I've been working with community groups who were wondering when the playgrounds would reopen as they're of little use to people with locks on the gate.
The weather hasn't been very suitable to use them but I want to see them opened as soon as possible so the children can make use of them" he said.
In response to his motion Cllr Henry was told by Director of Services Tom Kilfeather that responsibility for playgrounds has changed over to a new section of the Council and staff training had yet to take place but it would be done in March with a view to re opening the four playgrounds by mid March.
