BreastCheck asked ‘why’ loss of Sligo town site

the loss by BreastCheck of a site it used in Sligo town.

“Unfortunately our site in Sligo town has been withdrawn,” service users have been told by BreastCheck. See letter below.

However, no explanation was offered for the loss of the site.

The decision provoked a furious backlash on Facebook, when it was highlighted by long-time cancer services campaigner Catriona McGoldrick.

Own Driveway

One woman even offered to let the BreastCheck mobile unit park in her own driveway.

Said another: Surely if they could find (a site) in a small town like Tubbercurry they could find one in Sligo.”

Sites previously used by the womens’ health screening facility in Sligo town included Sligo Racecourse and the Retail Park in Carraroe.

Several Attempts

Local councillor Declan Bree made several attempts to contact Jennifer Kelly, manager of BreastCheck’s western unit yesterday, Friday.

Meanwhile, appointments will continued to be scheduled for Tubbercurry.

“Please be asssured that when we call you in two years time for your next screening appointment,” BreastCheck told local users: “You will be offered an appointment nearer to Sligo.

“Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused,” concluded BreastCheck.
