Garda and HSA investigations into Sligo workplace fatality

Gardai the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating a workplace accident in Co Sligo yesterday in which a man died while cutting down a tree.

Gerard Green (31), a tree surgeon, of Gortnagoyne in Dunmore, Co Galway was working at a private residence in Curry, Co Sligo when the incident happened.

The victim was struck by a large branch at Drumbaun (Curry) at about 11.30 yesterday morning.

Mr Green was fatally injured, and his body was removed to Sligo University Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The HSA has confirmed that they have been notified, and are investigating the circumstances of the fatal accident.

The Dunmore community was described as being “in shock” after the sudden death of the young man.
