IT Sligo launches the German Language Network with a free, informal talk, question and answer session exploring the theme ‘Heimat’, led by Dr Karin White, IT Sligo. Klaus Lindemann’s essay introducing a variety of prose and poetry on ‘Heimat’ notes: „ ‘Heimat ist ein so eigentümlich deutsches Wort, dass es sich kaum in fremde Sprachen übersetzen läßt‘ „, meaning that ‚Heimat‘ is an intrinsicly German term which is very difficult to translate into other languages.
This informal talk will allow us to find our meaning behind this all encompassing expression ‚Heimat‘ and will take place in the Model and Niland Cafe, today Thursday, 3 May, 2018 at 1pm. Anyone who wishes to refresh their German and get to know others – both German native speakers and ‘learners’ is most welcome.
The German Language Network is part of the outreach work of IT Sligo, students and lecturers in the School of Business and Social Sciences.
