FORMER MEP Dana Rosemary Scallon will address a public meeting against abortion in Sligo this week.
Sligo Park Hotel is the venue on Thursday next, May 10th, and the meeting is due to commence at 7.30pm.
Further information on the public meeting is available from Patrick Buckley at 087 2578 250.
public talk comes just a fortnight before Ireland decides whether or
not to repeal Constitutional protection for the unborn.
The Eighth Amendment was inserted after a bitter referendum in 1983.
Dana served as this area’s MEP from 1999 to June 2004 when she lost her seat.
She has past form, in 2001, in challenging all-party consensus in a referendum and coming out on the winning side.
Since then, Dana tried to (unsuccessfully) enter one race for the Presidency.
She did run in 2011, securing a nomination from four County Councils and finished sixth behind the winner, Michael D Higgins.
Back in 1970 the teenage Dana became Ireland’s first ever winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Amsterdam.
