John Connaghan will succeed Tony O’Brien, the CEO who resigned from “close of business” yesterday, Friday.
The new appointee has been part of the HSE’s senior management team since he came from Scotland two years ago.
His career includes three decades in both the public and private sector.
In Scotland, Connaghan served as CEO in a number of teaching hospitals.
He was also a key player in ensuring effective delivery of the NHS in Scotland and received Royal honours for his work.
