Hundreds of metres of phoneline stolen in Cliffoney and Cashelgarron

Thousands of euro worth of copper phone cable has been cut down from live power lines in the North Sligo area.

Ocean FM reports that hundreds of metres of the cable was stolen in the Cashelgarron area between 9pm and 9am on Monday.

While a similar amount of cable was cut down and stolen in the Cliffoney area on Tuesday night.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious to contact them, and Sligo Crime Prevention Officer, Jim Fox has appealed to scrap dealers to be on the lookout.

Garda Fox told Ocean FM that, 'It will cost thousands of euro to replace the cable and we are asking anybody who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact us with car registration numbers. If any scrapyards in the area are offered cable for sale they should contact us.'
