The Model is very excited to be teaming up with Darklight Film Festival to hold a daylong film orientated event on Aug. 04, starting at 11am.
Darklight Film Festival is renowned for celebrating independent, low to no budget, DIY , indie and artistic films. For the first time, Darklight is going national to support and enhance local talent on the big screen. As-well as visiting The Model Sligo, the Darklight Tour will be in Birr and Kilkenny collaborating with local filmmakers, festivals and musicians for a day long event of screenings, discussions, workshops and music before hitting Dublin for a four day celebration of the best Irish and International filmmaking talents!
On the day highlights will include, a show and tell with Janey Pictures, with director Marian Quinn and producer Tommy Weir of the incredible 32A. Tommy Weir will present screenings from Walker & Walker, Grace Weir and also Western Lights a selection of works from the North West, curated by Colin McKeown.
'We Are Poets’ winner of 'Best Documentary' at Dark light Festival last year followed by 'New Indie Voices' a selection of the best shorts from Darklight 2011 will also be shown. Cinematic, imaginative and uniquely honest, We Are Poets is a moving testament to the power of creativity, community and the dynamism of young people. Anyone tempted to dismiss today's youth as politically apathetic better pay heed: here is electrifying evidence to the contrary.
Local production companies and industry professionals will be giving tallks on topics such as funding and financing film and the art of community filmmaking.
Live music alongside discussions with the filmmaking community such as Cinema Northwest and Studio North West will take place.
