MiraDry - Live your summer without fear of excessive sweating

While damp underarms and dripping brows can be annoying and uncomfortable, for some people, excessive perspiration is an embarrassing condition that affects every facet of their lives.

Axillary hyperhidrosis is the medical term for the confidence-busting underarm condition that occurs in 2-3 in every 100 men and women in Ireland. From the embarrassing stains to the mortifying odour, excessive underarm sweating marks an anxiety-filled summer for most.

More people are now taking back their lives with the new FDA-approved non-surgical MiraDry treatment that eradicates this condition for good.

Speaking on the treatment Dr. Prendergast, Medical Director at Venus Medical, Dundrum said, “After the patient is given a local anaesthetic, the hand piece — which looks like a large joystick — is placed against the armpit, where it generates microwave energy powerful enough to destroy sweat glands up to five millimetres beneath the skin. At the same time, a built-in cooling system prevents the skin from overheating.”

“Each armpit takes about half-an-hour to treat, after which the patient takes painkillers and uses ice packs for a couple of days to reduce swelling. The procedure is repeated three months later to wipe out remaining glands”.

“Although the body sweats heavily through the armpits, the number of glands destroyed account for less 2% of the body’s sweating glands, which means the body is still able to regulate its temperature effectively”.

Why Mira Dry is the best solution for underarm sweating:

·         Clinical data has proven that Mira Dry is successful in reducing underarm sweating by
over 80% with close to 100% patient satisfaction

·         The treatment is nonsurgical with little-to-no recovery time.

·         Mira Dry is a permanent solution with just 2 treatments leaving you much dryer for life.
          Sweat glands do not regenerate.

·         The treatment does not involve surgery, use any chemicals or toxins.

Are there options aside from Mira Dry?

MiraDry is the only FDA-approved device for treating axillary hyperhidrosis for a permanent reduction in sweating that is non-surgical.  Botox can be used to temporarily reduce sweating, but this requires repeat treatments every 6-10 months and involves numerous injections.  Surgical options include endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy.

Alternatives to Mira Dry:

Traditional antiperspirants: Antiperspirants work by essentially clogging your sweat glands,
but they must be reapplied every day, if not every few hours, especially in the summer.
Most antiperspirants are also aluminium based which can be very irritating to the skin.

Underarm pads: Pads can be purchased to soak up excess sweat, preventing sweat stains
on your clothes. They are less practical in the summer months when clothes are lighter or shorter.

Changing your diet: Certain foods have been connected to increased sweating including spicy
and caffeinated foods. Avoiding these foods and eating more fruits and veggies may help
decrease sweating and body odour, but only mildly.

Regular Exercise: After an extended amount of time, regular exercise can lower your
body’s threshold for excitation, which includes sweating.

(ETS) that involves cutting the nerves around the spinal cord, or aggressive liposuction in the area which is quite crude and can leave lasting scarring.
