The final day for qualifying for the final takes place this weekend. This year I believe has been the most competitive for many a year as evidenced by the points table. Last weekend sorted some of the issues but there are many places still not resolved which should lead to very competitive matches on the final qualifying day.Section 1
The Cliffords John & Sean won the section with David O’Donovan & Niall Davey also qualifying. The other 2 qualifying positions will come from the Cunningham Brothers Tony & David, Michael Cullen & Kieran Mc Donagh and Tony Wehrly/Dermot Mc Dermott.
Two of these pairings play the 2 already qualified pairs so should be a very interesting finish. Will the sponsor qualify??
Young guns Tom Flanagan/Eddie Fitzpatrick and John Dolan/Dean Mahon have qualified. Four pairings are battling it out for the last 2 places.
This is a very hard section to call but if Jimmy Treacy does not fly his partner back from Brussels, he could falter…Section 3
Karl Demmel/Liam Gannon and Mick Barrett/Kieran O’Brien have qualified. 3 teams battle it out for the last 2 places. Could Declan O’Brien & Emmanuel Mc Cormack slip in from the tail-end?
Dave Edwards/Robbie Fitzpatrick and Joe Noonan/Fintan Dunne have qualified. Four teams will battle it out for the final 2 matches, as these pairings play against each other, it should make for an exciting day!!Section 5
Naoise Davitt/Donal Cronin and Brian O’Sullivan/Tony Parkinson have qualified. Four teams will contest for final 2 places. As two of these teams are playing against the qualifiers, the Tom Heelan/Alan Gaynor pairing could sneak in but they will have to be on top form on Sunday morning.Section 6
James Barnicle/John Feeney qualify. 5 teams have the chance of qualifying, four of these teams are playing each other so a lot of possibilities! Section 7
Karol Buttler/Kenneth Henry and Walter Murphy/Martin Mc Donnell have qualified. Seven teams do battle for the last 3 qualifying positions. I fancy the John & Ruairi O’Connors to qualify as well but cannot call the last 2 places.Section 8
Robert Heelan/Kyle Kane, Peter Mc Donnell/Jimmy Mungovan and Aidan Glacken/Gary Mealia have qualified. I fancy Nial Stafford/Eugene Henry and Dave Dent/Declan Reidy to take final 2 positions.
Overall at this stage the joint favourites to win this year are John Feeney & James Barnicle and the dogged pair of Liam Gannon & Karl Demmel. They are closely followed by Mick Barret & Kieran O’Brien and Robert Heelan and Kyle Kane partnerships.
